The RATIO - modelThe CoThink model for rational thinking processes supports structured processing of complex situations.
Our method provides a rational framework for your actions. It serves as a guide for you and your team to clarify situations, develop solutions, and implement them. The RATIO model is a field tested approach and supports you with structured measures and sustainable change processes.
Structured measures means engaging in result-oriented activities, setting priorities, and managing the involvement of stakeholders - especially under pressure of time and success. Our tools support the development of your organizational skills and help you and your team to make the most of the available resources.
R Reflect Issue
Assess an issue or task comprehensively. This includes priorities, interrelation of issues, dependencies and effects. Identify and manage the appropriate involvement of stakeholders to resolve the issue effectively.
The objectives of reflecting the issue are manifold. We offer tools to assess and visualize the situation’s context including dependencies, effects, broken barriers and contributing circumstances. Using this approach, you determine whether or not additional analysis is required. You establish priorities to solve the different issues. Stakeholders, who can contribute to the issue resolution are identified. This step establishes a basis for communication and follow up.
A Analyse the problem
Identify the causes of technical, human or organisational failure to avoid jumping to conclusions before evaluating possible causes carefully and systematically.
The key question of this process is: „What is the root cause of the performance gap?“ We introduce tools for the analysis of technical problems as well as for human behaviour. A problem is defined to be a deviation from the norm with unknown cause. The main objective of analysing the problem is to identify an unknown cause. To achieve this goal the quality of supporting information is key. Therefore, your team should avoid jumping to conclusions. Interpretations can be very dangerous. All possible causes will be systematically analysed to get evidence for the real cause.
T Target Actions
Make informed decisions or develop balanced recommendation. Consider different perspectives, objectives, added value and risks associated with possible alternatives.
Making the best decisions based on actual information is crucial for companies, departments, teams or individuals. Main objective is a balanced decision between risks and benefits of all options. CoThink supports developing a frame, considering all decision criteria which are required or influence the choice. Planning and preparing a sound recommendation is key to get decision makers informed and to create a reproducible result.
I Implement the Plan
Ensure that the issue is resolved and that all actions are successfully implemented. Identify and manage risks and prepare effective and appropriate communication to all stakeholders.
Major objective is to avoid any risks as a result of actions taken. Decide on who will implement what, by when and how. Instruct, align and communicate actions to those involved. Tools in this area are used to anticipate risks proactively in order to eliminate or mitigate the risks through preventive measures, or respond with resilience to consequences, if they do occur. “Critical and creative” thinking skills are fostered by the use of our methods.
O Observe and Evaluate
Determine whether additional actions are required to ensure that the issue is resolved. Prevent problems from recurring, identify opportunities for continuous improvement and communicate lessons learnt.
The overall goal is to determine whether or not the results of the actions are sustainable and to decide additional actions are required. This is a great opportunity to prevent problems from recurring and to prevent new risks. Assessing additional options for continuous improvements is key to success. For further processing, this part of the RATIO model indicates learning points for the organisation and future improvements.
